Back injuries account for almost 20% of workplace injuries or illnesses, and it is VERY preventable.
When lifting or moving something, keep these safety tips in mind.
- Test the weight of what you are preparing to lift by pushing it with your hands or feet. If there is a question on an item being too heavy, ask for help.
- Keep your feet comfortably apart.
- Bend at your knees, not your back.
- Keep objects close to your body.
- Tighten your stomach muscles.
- Never lift and twist.
